Music Video Analysis

This video is Whitney Houstons 'I wanna dance with somebody'. The first thing that strikes us to this video is the song itself because it is upbeat and fast, which grabs attention to the viewer. This video would be easy to re create because a lot of it, the singer is standing in front of different backgrounds miming to the song. She interacts with what else is going on in the scene. It is a really simple music video because her voice is the main focus point in the video. We would not use the same idea for our video because it is too simple, and there is not much range in the camera shots. Whitney Houston at the time this video was made was at the height of her fame, so she never had to have big budgets to sell her music videos because she was always a big name in the music industry. If we were to create a video which is similiar we would not need a big budget to be able to recreate a similiar effect. Back in her day, Whitney would of been someone people admired so they use 'The Male Gaze' here to create attention towards her. This is something which we would be able to create but it would depend alot on who was in our music video.






This video is from the new fame film, and is the title song of the movie by Nautri Naughton. This video is exactly the type of thing we have in mind for our music video. The video is set in a typical performing arts school and in the streets of new york. It includes many different stereotypes, focussing on performers. Re creating this video would not be that hard because some parts are based in a dance studio, which we know we have one which we could use and the rest is on a street in new york. Obviously we would not be able to use a street in new york but it would be easy to use any street anywhere, to create the same kind of style. As the music of the song starts to build up, the action in the video does too which allows the viewer of the video to get more interested. The narrative in the video is about kids wanting fame, and the song in the video is perfect for that because it is exactly about that. We would like a music video with lots of dancing and action in because it keeps the viewer entertained. Nautri Naughton is also feautred as the object of 'The Male gaze' which as said before, would be something we would be able to create ourselves.

This is a music video by the Artic Monkeys and would be one which would be easy to recreate. Although, it is a video which doesn't inspire me. The reason for this is because it is not to the genre of music I would naturally listen to or the genre of music I would consider doing for my music video. This type of setting for a video would be easy to find a re create. I would describe this video as being 'Random' and that is something I don't like for a video. This is because a video should have a narrative. Our music video will have a very clear narrative which will also hopefully link well to the song which we later decide to do.
